Cowboy Gear Boosts Community Spirit

I have to admit that I am one of the many Calgarians that take part in (and enjoy) dressing up in country inspired attire. Dressing up in full cowgirl/boy gear definitely hits it's peak over the 10 days of Stampede. People of all ages take part in the spirit of the season-yes I am refering to Stampede season. Some call this the most wonderful time of the year. It is a time when everyone is in good spirits and regardless of their background pretends to be a cowboy/girl. It's like everyone is a kid again getting excited and putting on dress-up clothes. It's actually hilarious that the majority of the city has probably invested in a pair of cowboy boots ($100-$400) and yet 90 percent of us haven't stepped on to ranch in years! Stampede is a time of year to have fun and shout out Yee Haw whenever you please.
I love how Stampede brings Calgarians together. It is a great example of how an event can unite a community.

  1. Stampede is a great even to bring Calgarians together and is also a wicked tourist attraction. It shows off Calgary's roots while at the same time is a lot of fun for all ages. Being born and raise in Calgary, the impact each year has worn down but i do have to admit that i still do get excited for all the western theme'd parties! It is a great tool for community development and since it is annual, there creates history and tradition for the community to follow.

  2. I definitely agree with both of you two! Calgary Stampede showcases part of Calgary's identity and the community as a whole.
It brings together people from all over world, and local Calgarians. It incorporates food, fun, action, relationship building, and communication through various activities and opportunities at the event.
The Calgary Stampede sparks other events like rodeos in small towns as well, like High River where I group up. It really has a large impact on communities around it, and on Calgary itself. It is a great Calgary tradition, and is always a nice event to brag about to Edmontonians(who have the Klondike Days)haha...Which is a great community development event, but isn't as distinguished as the Calgary Stampede
